Some Saturdays are busier than others. This past Saturday was one of the really busy ones. We began the day with Ralph and Steven heading to the church for a service project and Sarah and I setting off on a mother/daughter hike with the activity day girls. The girls got ready for their hike by making cute backpacks to carry their gear and baking muffins for snacks. Here they are lined up showing off the bags they made.
We set off in a light rain. Thus the fogging of the camera lens. Because of the rain we didn't hike the trail we originally planned on, we were afraid the rocks would be too slick. Instead, we took a pleasant walk up the canal towpath. We saw plenty of blue herons, turtles, dragonflies, and even a snake. When we got to the falls, we enjoyed muffins as we watched the water crash through the rocks. On the way back to the car, the sun even showed up for a few minutes and started to dry us out. We did not quite make it back to the car before thunder crashed and we saw a few lightening bolts. Then the rain came down heavily. We were glad that it wasn't far back to the cars. It was a fun hike with the girls though and will be more memorable because of the rain.
We arrived home as Ralph and Steven were returning from their activity. Ralph was unloading the trailer as he heard a hiss that didn't belong. Evidently, somewhere along the road that day he had punctured a tire. It may turn out that that puncture was a blessing, the truck needed new tires and now it has them. As that vehicle will be driving kids for Youth Conference, Scout Camp and then on to Utah in the next month, it is probably a good thing that we were forced to deal with getting it done yesterday. It could have been worse if we had a problem with the tires during one of those events.
