Finally Some Sun

It feels like we have had a very rainy month.  Yes, we have had a few cloud-free days but they have been drowned out by the thunderstorms and torrential rains.  I love the thunder and lightening but my yard is underwater and needs a break.  Yesterday was a nice, although muggy day and the sun is shining again today.  It is nice to see the sun and I hope that the yard dries out a bit.  Ralph managed to get the lawn mowed yesterday but it was really soft.  If you sit still and listen in the backyard you can hear water trickling.

The last couple of weeks have been busy as all the kids are finishing up school projects and assignments while battling the urge to ditch it all and go swimming.  Sarah had her band concert a few days ago.  It was fun to hear her play with the band even though the music she plays at home is more advanced than what her class is learning.  She has taken to the flute quickly and plays very well.

Steven's latest obsession is the Rubik's cube.  He has mastered it and can solve it within two minutes.  Lately he has been watching you-tube videos about how to create your own cubes of varying sizes and constantly begs for the opportunity to do so.  Ralph went out to the garage yesterday and helped him cut some 1"x 1" squares of wood and drill them so they can be connected.  He is enjoying his homemade 2x2 cube.

Here is a picture of the kids with their grandparents a couple of weeks ago when they were visiting for William's baptism.  We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day that week also.

I almost forgot the most important news of the week.  The fireflies are out.  My kids have been waiting for them to make an appearance and they are here.  William and Rachel had fun catching some on Friday evening and they are making plans for catching more tomorrow evening.  I like to see them sparkling in the wooded areas along the road as we drive in the evening.
