Snowpocalypse

Snowpocalypse, Snowmaggedon, The Big Snow, call it what you will but we have more snow than we need. It measures at 27 inches on our back porch and it is still coming down. Sometime in the middle of the night, we think around 3 am, we lost power. Now, if it were up to me the entire family would have stayed in bed until noon. Unfortunately, it is never up to me anymore. Geral climbed into bed with Ralph and me at 5:30 am and I never got back to sleep again after that. The boys were up between 6 and 6:30. I told them to go back to bed but they were in their room talking, laughing, etc. I had to send them downstairs because they were making so much noise. Without the TV and computer to occupy them they continued to make too much noise for me to continue resting. When Rachel appeared at my bedside looking to warm up, I decided to give up on staying in bed late and got up myself. I got up to a very white world with snow still swirling down heavily. After getting kids a breakfast of cold cereal, I went out to the garage to find our measuring stick. I was just curious how deep it all was. The first measurement at about 8am was 21 inches.

As soon as he had eaten, William was eager to be out in the snow. He was intrigued by the fact that it would reach his waist and he had great visions of elaborate snow caves and tunnels as well as enormous snowmen. I decided that I better go out and at least start clearing a path from the front porch to the driveway. William came to help me but was discouraged by how heavy the snow was and how difficult it was to clear even a small area. It wasn't packing well enough for him to make snowballs or carve a cave so it was not a long lasting play session.

Ralph and I have been out 3 times today shoveling snow. I still don't think we could actually get a car out of the driveway. But we are getting closer each time. We will make at least one more effort before it gets dark and fortunately we haven't had to go anywhere today anyway.
