On our short walk to school this morning, I heard some words uttered by my 9 year old son that I hadn't heard in quite some time. "I can't wait to get to school."
Did you hear that? "I can't wait" and "school" used together in the same sentence without a "get's out" qualifier.
Wow! My mind quickly raced through the many possibilities of things that could happen at school that might elicit such a statement from a confirmed schoolaphobic.
Then there it was. "It is so cold out here and the school is at least warm."
I had to laugh. There had been no sudden change of heart, just the draw of the furnace. I wrapped my arm around his shoulders while I laughed and he didn't even shrug me off he was so glad to have that small protection from the wind.
So I guess that I have to be grateful for the icy wind that was blowing this morning. It gave me the opportunity to steal a hug from my 9 year old and thats almost as rare as a compliment for the school.
