Sixteen Years

I once sent Ralph over to a friends house to fix her computer for her and she called me the next day and said, "You know what, Ralph wasn't boring at all.  He is witty and kind of fun."  Now I already knew that and I was quite amused by her astonishment at that discovery.  

Ralph is witty and kind of fun.  I enjoy spending time with him.  This is why I ask him almost every morning if he doesn't just want to take the day off and spend it with me.  He is smart enough to say that he does want to even as he kisses me and heads out the door.  I am grateful that he has a job that he usually likes and that he provides well for our family.  I appreciate that he wants me to be able to be home with our children and can support that lifestyle.  Still, it makes me happiest to hear him walk back in door in the evening and hear Rachel squeal, "Daddy!" and Geral say "Hi Ralph!" I just like to have him around.

Back when I was dating, my sisters would sometimes despair of me because I never dated anyone very long.  They would ask me how things were going with so-and-so and I would reply that we weren't dating anymore because I had gotten bored with him.  I am pretty sure that my sisters thought that I didn't give most of those young men enough of a chance.  When I started dating Ralph, it was different.  I knew that I wanted to marry him before we even went on our first date.  We only dated a month and then were engaged two months before we got married.   Today we celebrate 16 years of marriage and I have to say that I haven't gotten bored yet.  Over those 16 years I am sure that we have gone through plenty of emotions but boredom has never been one of them.  After all, among all his good traits, Ralph is witty and kind of fun!
