Cub Day Camp

William finished up a week of Cub Day Camp. It started off as a hot and humid. The boys were sweltering. Monday afternoon a huge thunderstorm rolled through forcing them to take shelter and close camp early. From Tuesday on, the weather was perfect. Warm but not too hot, just enough breeze to keep the gnats from congregating, and low humidity. To top off the perfect weather, William got to spend it doing things boys love to do with lots of other boys.

Archery is always a favorite with the boys. They learned the whistle signals and how to hold their bows. The toughest part is pulling back on the arrow far enough to make it to the target, while still aiming at the target.

In Scoutcraft they learned all the fundamentals to being a prepared scout. Identifying poisonous plants, tying knots, whipping a rope, building a shelter, and how to create a camp without impacting nature too much. The boys were given beads for picking up trash around the camp which made it a favored activity.

Crafts were so much fun. The boys got to build a bat house and make a crossbow that shot arrows made of straws. The crossbow rated pretty high on everyones list of favorite things.

Williams favorite activity for the week was science. The first days experiment involved balloons, baking soda and vinegar. Then they got to douse a flame using the CO2 they created. On the last day of camp the boys tested acids and bases using cabbage juice as the indicator. William was thrilled to be part of the last group and therefore allowed to take home the test tube kit so that he can do it again. He has been playing mad scientist since he got back mixing different colored waters in his test tubes.

He finished up the week tired but happy.
